Question 4

What size and weight can EMS carry?

Accepted Answer

For most countries Japan Post EMS takes parcels up to 30 kg, up to 1.5 m long, and up to 3 m length plus girth. Some countries are lower: for example 20 kg to Trinidad and Tobago and the Philippines, and 1.05 m long / 2 m length plus girth to Germany and Spain. Bumpers, doors and engines are often too big. Ask first and I'll check your country.

Question 5

Is there anything you can't send?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Japan Post won't carry dangerous goods by international mail. For car parts that usually means batteries, aerosol sprays, paint and other flammable liquids, and airbag modules or seatbelt pretensioners (they contain explosive charges). Your own country may also restrict some imports, so please check your local rules.

Question 6

How do I find my chassis code?

Accepted Answer

It's on the identification plate in the engine bay and usually on your import or registration papers. Japanese cars use a model code plus a frame number (for example TRH200-0123456). If you can't find it, tick “I don't know it” on the form and send a photo of the plate or papers.
